Back from Jamaica!
12-11-11 02:13 PM

Couples Swept Away is a fantastic resort!  We probably ate/drank $2500 worth of food and alcohol while we were there!  And every pound I gained was completely worth it!  LOL

Seriously, the food was phenomenal!  The Jamaicans who work at the resort are a lot of fun!  Also, we met some awesome people while we were there.  Oh, and Daniel proposed on our first night there :)

He took me for a walk on the beach at sunset and proposed...It was beautiful!  He bought the engagement ring that I had told him I liked and he proposed on the first day so I'd have an entire week to enjoy our engagement before I had to share it with anyone else!  He knows me so well :D

We bought a lot of Blue Mountain coffee while we were there, went snorkeling, spent plenty of time just relaxing, got a couples massage, ate tons of amazing food, spent a lot of time at the Aura Lounge (piano bar), went to Rick's Cafe with our new friends from Canada, and I finally got to swim in the ocean!!!  The beach was beautiful and the water was crystal clear!  It was about 85 degrees the entire time we were there!  Trust me, coming back to 25 degrees really made me realize how great the weather was there!

Daniel is not a huge fan of customs & immigration (the pat-down from the Jamaican security woman didn't help), but he loved our time in Jamaica so we might go back when we have the money :)

Oh, just an FYI, we'll probably end up getting married on August 31, 2013.  That date (8/31) is extremely important to Daniel because his great grandparents, grandparents, and Mom & Step Dad were all married on that date.  He wants to keep the tradition going, which is fine with me.  We have no idea what kind of wedding we'll end up having, where it will be, or how many people we'll end up inviting.  All of those decisions will have to be made at some point, but I'm not going to worry about it right now!

Current Music: Still have Bob Marley stuck in my head...LOL...
Current Mood: Excited

That sounds like an amazing trip! What's the ring look like? Did you cry? I want details!!!!

Shit...sorry, I just realized you had replied to this! I'm assuming you've seen the ring on FB by now...LOL...no, I didn't cry...you know me...
But he did great! I was very surprised because he told me he couldn't afford a ring then...sunset on the beach was the perfect way to propose and I love that he listened when I told him I wanted to have time to enjoy being engaged before I told everyone....Like I said, he did great!

We're actually leaning towards getting married at Couples too :) That makes us both happy, it's easier to plan, and less expensive so I think we'll probably do that...

That's a good idea. You can get married and honeymoon at the same place. Plus it cuts down on the guest list, but I wanna come to your wedding!!! I am broke and pretty sure my passport was lost a few years ago, lol.

Congratulations!! Do you mind me asking what resort? My fiancé (also named Daniel lol) and I are trying to find a good resort for our honeymoon. We are getting married in June but because we were looking to go to a carribean resort we want to wait til the following December or January to go on a honeymoon. Just to give u's more time to save money and so the weather isn't too hot. I'd love to hear your thoughts! It sounds like you had an awesome time!

Couples Swept Away. FANTASTIC resort! Adult & couples only. No children screaming. Very intimate. Amazing food. Lots of included activities. Lots of bars too :)

All of the employees were exceptional. Very willing to do anything/everything to make you happy!

Check out the Couples website & message boards. They have several resorts, but I think Swept Away suited us the best.

Also, the weather was great during our trip (Dec 3-10). Not too hot, but great beach weather. The water was warm & beautiful. I think it only rained once while we were there. It rained hard, but it was over in a couple of hours. Definitely not a big deal.

Good luck planning everything & congrats on your upcoming marriage!

I'm a totally random stranger passing by.... My husband and I are going to the Zimbali Retreat near Negril Jamaica sometime in 2012. I gave the trip to him for Christmas because I found a great deal on LivingSocial.com for 5 night stay with them. The reviews are phenomenal and the Facebook comments from people who have been or are planning to return all say the experience is excellent. Check them out too. :-)

Thank u I definitely will! I've heard there's deals on living social kinda like groupon. I am not as familiar with it but it's time to educate myself! Lol. Thanks again! :)

If you check out LivingSocial, the trips are under their "escapes" tab. Had a good experience with them last year when I bought a weekend getaway to a culinary resort/spa in Essex, Vermont that included a cooking class.

The Jamaica deal was sweet....about 50% off what it would have cost. For $940, the deal I scored was a five night stay for two in a cottage at the Zimbali Retreat in the Canaan Mountains near Negril. Includes all meals with a private chef, a jungle tour, a day trip to Negril, a tour of the organic farm that provides for the retreat, a river hydrotherapy cool-down massage and also a $50 drink credit. Pretty sweet. All we need to do is select a date to go and book it because the voucher is good through mid-February 2013! I bought it in August and they recently ran the deal again so it may come up again....and if not, they have tons of other escapes for other tropical locales. :-) Perhaps you'll find something that will spark your interest!
